Interviewing the Big Kahuna

Later this week I'll be doing a phone interview with Phoenix MD Neil Morris about the progress being made on the new Phoenix home ice, and what the Phoenix Club is going to be doing this coming season. Hopefully after the interview I'll be in a position to spread a little joy amongst our fans with news of how the progress is going, but first I have to think of a bunch of questions to ask....... it ain't easy being a media tart, you know....

Richard,
Here's a few questions you might like to put to Mr Morris.

1. What progress has been made since the meeting at the Town Hall regarding the new rink?

2. What is the propsed location?

3. When is construction due to commence?

4. Who will be the owner of the rink?

5. When is it likely to open? (before the start of next season perhaps?)

6. What other external facilities are planned in conjunction with the new rink? (shops, casino????, etc)

7. What facilities will the new rink have? i.e.bar(s), loos, space for merchandise, cafe/restaurant, etc.

8. Can we see some plans of the interior?

(Don't let him fob you off with rubbish that council are more preoccupied discussing Metrolink than anything else at the moment. All such issues are dealt with exclusively by the Passenger Transport Authority and not Manchester City Council)

Sorry to be posting as anonymous but can't be bothered to register for any more forums/websites....

regards
Di

Far from fobbing me off, Neil is very welcoming of the idea of an interview and is looking forward to the opportunity to bring the fans up to speed on what's going on. You have to understand that there are probably confidentiality agreements in place with various parties to prevent full disclosure (as is standard business practice) but I'm sure there will be plenty of light shed on the current position when I get the interview done!

It was just the comment made recently on the official site by the office, regarding the council being too busy with Metrolink to discuss a new rink facility that I considered was "fobbing off" (convenient excuse) the fans with rubbish. I am aware that Neil is bound by various confidentiality agreements and that is fine. I would be more worried if he didn't abide by those agreements! He has always come across as being open and upfront and honest. As long as the fans are kept appraised of the current situation and updated on a regular basis (within the constraints described above), then I for one will be happy. It's the not hearing anything that gives people time to think, speculate and come up with their own conclusions, which may be harmful (however well-intentioned) to the club in the long run and that is something I dont want to see happen. It was hard enough losing our team once. This time is quite different, although still difficult, but if we can be drip-fed some kind of update on a fairly regular basis (it's been over a month since the meeting at the Town Hall and we've heard NOTHING), I am sure that will suffice. It would perhaps be nice to see Neil attend one of the quizzes at the Sports Cafe.

Look forward to reading the transcript in due course.

Di - it must have escaped your attention that everyone in the Town Hall recently walked out to protest at the Metrolink decision - its not an isolated thing and it is taking up a lot of Council time.

Richard - I'll buy you a pint if you ask him a question that includes the word "badgers".

It certainly hasn't escaped my notice....I work in public transport! It was the inference that the entire Manchester City Council were busy with all matters Metrolink, that I am taking issue with.
It seemed a convenient "smoke-screen" to hide behind. Sorry,I am wearing my cynic hat this week!
Be that as it may, I am looking forward to hearing what Neil has to say and if Richard can get in a question that's got badgers in it, even better!
