GB U20s @ iceSheffield

As most people who read this are aware, I'm one of the guys who setup and run Eurohockey.Net. Part of what we do on the site is to try and provide coverage for as much IIHF competition as possible - particually the lower groups which are not of interest to bulk of the hockey world.

With the IIHF World U20 Championship Division 1 Group A, to give it it's full title, being held in Sheffield this week it's on my home soil, so it's up to me to sort out the coverage for the site. I started my plans by giving Mike a ring - he writes a much better match report than me - so he's helping me where he can.

Now, so far this season I've not attended a single hockey match. Been meaning to get to one or two, but just haven't got round it to. In the first two days of competition this week I've seen six!

It's been really good so far, with the level of competition really high. There's a real mix of styles between the teams, with each having at least one or two stand-out players. GB have had two cracking games, and although we lost both, the lads refused to roll and and die in either - pulling a 3-0 deficit against France back to 3-3 yesterday.

I certainly don't think GB will be vying for any promotion slots this year - but I'm hoping that they'll at least do enough to stay up in division one. Fingers crossed for the rest of the week.
