We inch ever closer to having a place called home, with even an advert for a new Head Coach on the website. And all even when the ground isn't quite broken on Manchester Square Gardens - I'm awaiting that moment like waiting for a phone call for something important, like a new job. Except that normally you don't have to wait 10 weeks for that. And have to worry that it will all fall apart because you discover a rare species of toad.
That analogy didn't work, did it? Oh, well.
Speaking of Head Coach, it should be a nice indicator of the type of hockey we are looking at. I'm not convinced it will be Paul Heavey - not that I'd mind - just not sure. All I ask is that:
a) The Coach is aware of the history of the Phoenix and buys into the philosophy behind the club. These are fans who have fought tooth and nail to resurrect hockey, who have travelled around the country to support the sport in the absence of the team. Neil Morris has moved any number of mountains to start the club, and then get MSG built. So priority #1 is to see that passion and commitment on the ice. We don't demand trophies, we demand 100% effort every single game. Give us a team that cares as much as the people in the stands do, and they will be made minor dieties.
b) Its not Daryl Lipsey.
Anyway, 2005 was personally full of wonderful moments. Shallow End, gigging at the Comedy Store, meeting the cast of Serenity at the World Premiere, rediscovering lots of wonderful music and comedy from my formative years, saying goodbye to people like Hovis Presley.
Here's to a Phoenix filled 2006.
