It's not something that surfaces often, but when it does it's usually something special. I'm referring to the wonderful moment when someone posts a piece of total hearsay on the Phoenix forum and then asks 'is this true or rumour?'
That little caveat on the end comes in many shapes and forms - 'is this reliable?', 'can someone from the club confirm this?', 'why has there been no comment on this?' etc - but the underlying tactic is always the same. Make a statement, and then challenge someone to confirm or deny it.
So I think I'd like to follow the trend myself:
"Presenting a statement, no matter how inaccurate, speculative or just plain rhubarb, and then following it with a call for someone to confirm or deny is a total waste of time and a real pain in the arse to those who spend a great amount of time trying to keep the public as informed a possible. Truth or rumour?"
