Tonight it all got real again. The Manchester Phoenix finally played the first game in the new Altrincham Ice Dome, the permanent home of the team. We lost 4-5 to Basingstoke, but for most people in the building the result won't matter, the fact that the game was played at all is the real victory.
From a Match Night Entertainment Crew perspective, I think it went pretty well. We're a little rusty, so instead of stacking the running order with things like Shoot The Puck, we just kept it simple. And it worked.
It was a little odd at first, having Landers in the announce position and Fishcake and myself at the end of the rink, but with a set of radios spread out between us, we got the job done, and done well.
It was good to be working once again with Jon and Steve, the camera ops, and the new members of the crew - Fenton, Millhouse, James and Jack Sparrow - all fitted into their roles and rose to the challenge of working the match. From an entertainment perspective, nothing went spectacularly wrong, which is a testament to the skills, determination and professionalism of the people that I am lucky enough to be surrounded with.
But above it all, the time has now arrived where we can stand proud and say: We are finally home.
