Retro-tastic!

Through the magic of the Interweb, I've managed to download Now That's What I Call Music Vols 1-10. I know we are on Now Vol 376 or something, but this stuff covers November 1983-November 1987, or the bit concerning the age in my life that I'm required by law to describe as "decent music, not like the rubbish you get now".

OK, so there is the occasional clunker (Lionel Richie - "Hello") among the mix of chart friendly (Kajagoogoo, Culture Club), but seeing as Stock/Aitken/Waterman hadn't got their mitts on the charts, there is still some quirky greats. Karel Fialka with "Hey Matthew", Stan Ridgeway "Camouflage", even a very early Rory Bremner spoof of Paul Hardcastles "19", its a cricket thing, he calls himself "The Commentators" and does the voices to "N-N-N-Nineteen Not Out".

"In 1934 the England captains batting average was 34, in 1984 it was n-n-n-nineteen."

TV Creams Guide to the Now albums

Anyway, two discs of MP3s, or 20 CDs. Bloomin' marvellous. After a day of 80s goodness (The Damned - "Shadow of Love", "Safety Dance" by the best named band in history, Men Without Hats) I'm surprised I didn't turn up for work with a mullet.

I refuse to take fashion advice from a man with a beard.

It's not a beard, it's a hamster. Called Cedric. He just likes hugging my chin, that's all.
