Running the Phoenix Forum is fairly easy, because of experience on the part of myself, Carl and Rev and a certain level of paranoia on the part of Phoenix Management, we put locks on the forums to ensure trolls and such like can't get in. Additionally, constant monitoring means things don't get too out of hand.
It isn't easy and sometimes it is hard to judge just when things go too far. Then the Godmins have various options - I prefer the quiet word, or perhaps the not so quiet public posting to say the equivalent of "come on lads, we've all had a drink". Basically a subtle warning to say I've spotted that something could get out of hand.
I was reading a flame war on another forum and I really, really wanted to defuse it - even though it wasn't my place. The problem was, the idea that popped into my was to post something so utterly silly it would stop the flamers in their tracks. I didn't, but the thread would have gone something like:-
A: You're a git.
B: No, you're a git.
A: No, you are a git.
B: No, you are a git.
Me: Heh. Look. I done a poo.
I scare myself sometimes.

You can scare some of the people all of the time, you can scare all of the people some of the time, but Mr Landers can scare all of the people all of the time. Usually with postings like that one.
Wouldnt bother doing that Mike.
Funny as it is (and I know which forum you refer to), you might nupset a few of the more......vocal member son there. Far too many of em dont get the humor in postings.
