Although we are often accused of it, the one thing we are very careful of on the match night crew is not letting our own taste influence the playlist too much. I'm forever throwing songs at Richard with a "this will work!" and he, quite politely "forgets" to add them to the playlist. Which I'm completely happy with, because I know that my taste is a little eclectic.
Anyway, one thing we don't do is be nasty to the opposition. So when we played Basingstoke Bison (called the Basingstoke Beavers until a good decade ago, but never allowed to forget) it was all I could do to not pass on Pop Will Eat Itselfs "Beaver Patrol" on for the next time Basingstoke come to town.
On a slightly related note, shortly after, iTunes threw up Peter Gabriels "Mercy Street", which has probably my favourite lyric in the entire world:
Looking down on empty streets, all she can see
Are the dreams all made solid
Are the dreams all made real
All of the buildings, all of those cars
Were once just a dream
In somebodys head
The last three lines always put a shiver down my spine... such a beautiful way of expressing invention, that could be applied to anything. Including the Phoenix, including the Ice Dome... "Were once just a dream, in somebodys head."
